Know the full scope

Ask for the complete quote before work starts.

The independent provider diagnoses the job, sets the price, collects payment, and handles its warranty. RR does not quote the locksmith work.

Short answer

There is no honest universal price for every Los Angeles lock or key request. Compare quotes by scope: service call, assumed labor, identified parts, possible changes, approval process, and warranty.

The six main variables

What may change a provider’s quote

RR does not publish artificial “from” prices or imply control over independent-provider pricing. The selected provider explains its own estimate and terms.

01

Service type

Entry, rekeying, repair, replacement, key origination, and programming require different time and equipment.

02

Existing hardware

Brand, cylinder, keyway, door preparation, condition, and security level can change the provider’s method.

03

Parts

Existing hardware, a new lock, remote, cylinder, or key blank can materially change the provider’s total.

04

Timing and access

Urgency, time, parking, controlled building access, and safe workspace may affect provider availability and price.

05

Vehicle details

Year, make, model, key style, immobilizer, and whether any working key remains shape automotive work.

06

On-site diagnosis

Photos help, but hidden damage, misalignment, or incompatibility may only become clear when the provider inspects it.

Compare the same scope

A six-line quote check

A useful number is tied to a defined job. Use these questions before comparing one provider with another.

Service call

Is travel or dispatch included, and when is it owed?

Labor

What task and condition does the quoted labor assume?

Parts

Which lock, cylinder, key, remote, or other part is included?

Possible change

What finding could change the total after inspection?

Approval

Will the provider state the revised total before added work?

Warranty

What is covered, for how long, and who handles the return visit?

Ask the provider before authorizing work

  • What is the provider’s exact business name and active California LCO license number?
  • Does the quote include the service call, labor, identified parts, and applicable fees?
  • Is the method entry, repair, rekey, or replacement—and why?
  • What could change the price after inspection?
  • Will the provider obtain approval before any added work?
  • What warranty applies, and who handles a return visit?

RR’s compensation

RR may receive a referral fee or call-placement fee from the independent provider. RR does not add that fee to a locksmith invoice or collect the provider’s service payment. Provider pricing remains the provider’s responsibility.

California consumer checks

California’s Bureau of Security and Investigative Services regulates locksmith companies and employees. Review the official consumer guide to hiring a locksmith and license verification resource.
